Concept

To Cultivate

In the rush of daily life,

the heart becomes like soil, trampled and hardened.

No matter what new thing you add, nothing quite takes root.

A hoe breaks the surface, lets the air back in, and restores the earth to its original softness. That is what 耕 aspires to be — a place of restoration.

You have done nothing in particular, yet somehow you feel whole again.

May that feeling, rediscovered here, carry gently into your everyday life.

This is the wish held within the name of our house.

Autumn Leaves

Autumn Leaves

Autumn colours at your doorstep

「色づく」

Irozuku

When autumn arrives, the whole neighbourhood slowly changes colour.

The house sits in Kikuhama, held between the Kamo River and the Takase River. As the morning air turns crisp, the trees along the water begin to turn, a little more each day. Stepping out and walking the riverside before the crowds arrive — that is the greatest luxury of autumn here.

Keihan Kiyomizu-Gojo Station is a 7-minute walk away, and from there it is about 10 minutes by train to Tofuku-ji, one of Kyoto's most celebrated places for autumn leaves.

紅葉に包まれる東福寺・通天橋 / Tsutenkyo Bridge at Tofuku-ji temple surrounded by autumn leaves

Tsutenkyo at Tofuku-ji

The covered bridge seems to float above a sea of maple leaves — one of Kyoto's great autumn sights, about 10 minutes by train from Keihan Kiyomizu-Gojo Station.

夜間特別拝観でライトアップされた京都の日本庭園 / A Kyoto garden illuminated during an evening autumn viewing

Lanterns in the Garden

In the season of autumn leaves, Shosei-en sometimes opens for special evening viewings.

Scarlet and Gold Above

From scarlet to gold — a single tree can hold the whole gradient of autumn.

Peak foliage and evening viewing periods vary from year to year. Please check the official information for each site before setting out.
