Autumn in Kyoto — the season of colour

The front-page photographs are now autumn scenes

The banks of the Kamo River as they begin to turn; Shosei-en Garden. We have chosen views that show autumn in the Gojo and Kikuhama neighbourhood. We hope they give you a sense, before you travel, of how this part of the city looks in this season.

“Turning colour” — a new section on autumn in Kyoto

We have also added a new section to the site, “Turning colour”, introducing the places worth seeing in autumn — those within walking distance of Kou, and those a little further afield.

Shosei-en, where the maples are mirrored on the water; Tofuku-ji, known for the view from the Tsutenkyo bridge; and the night maples lifted out of the dark by lantern light. The same tree looks quite different at dawn and at dusk.

We are accepting reservations for the autumn foliage season.
